By Sabrina Wilson / March 22, 2017

One of the most embarrassing conditions to seek help for is genital warts. They are uncomfortable to deal with and aren’t something that people felt comfortable talking about because of the stigma surrounding them.

They are caused by the human papillomavirus or HPV, and the worst part about it is that they can come back. There is no cure for this virus currently. It’s not all bad news, however. The good news is that there are some home remedies for genital warts that you can try during an outbreak to get rid of these warts in a natural fashion.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is an essential oil that is used for many health purposes, and it is also a wart remover (buy it here). You’ll need to determine how strong of tea tree oil you want to use as the stronger it is, the less time it will take to remove the wart. The problem is that tea tree oil can be harsh on your skin when not diluted enough. Some things you can dilute the oil in that can aid your goals of getting rid of the warts are using aloe vera juice, olive oil, or water. Soak a cotton ball in the tea tree oil mixture, and apply it to your wart. Cover it with a bandage or medical tape to keep it in place overnight. Repeat this until the wart is gone.

Duct Tape

Duct tape may sound like a crazy natural remedy for your genital wart issue, but it is actually a valid method that has been tested as effective on other wart types. You’ll want to get a piece of duct tape about the size of the wart, and fully cover the wart. You can leave this piece of tape on the area for six days. If it falls off, you can add a new piece. Now, depending on the location of your genital wart, this may not be a great method of removal for you, but people have found relief using this method in the past.

Oatmeal Bath

One of the most soothing natural remedies for itchy and irritated skin is oatmeal. It sounds a little crazy, but an oatmeal bath is a good way to relieve the discomfort that can come from genital warts. You don’t have sit in a bathtub full of oatmeal that you eat for breakfast as there is an oatmeal powder that you can use for this purpose. However, if you have oatmeal for home use and are in need, feel free to use that oatmeal. You can also create a paste with the oatmeal or oatmeal powder to coat the area for relief.

Milkweed Sap

Milkweed sap is another natural remedy for dealing with your genital warts. If you have milkweed plants in your yard, you can snap off a leaf to get the milkweed sap right from the source. You’ll want to dab a small amount of it onto the genital wart and cover with a bandage. Repeat this about once or twice a day until your wart is handled. Not everyone has milkweed in their area or feel confident enough to find it, so there are some milkweed creams available for purchase.

Homeopathic Mix

One homeopathic recipe for dealing with external genital warts is a mixture of several items. You’ll want to paint the wart with a layer or vitamin A or beta-carotene. Follow this up by adding a few drops of echinacea, thuja, and lomatium essential oils to the area. You will want to make sure that the products you put on your skin are approved for such as use as not all essential oils are created equally. Some brands are meant for medicinal use, and others are not in the way that they are prepared.

Note of Caution

If your genital warts are resisting your every move or you’re finding that the condition is worsening, it may be time to seek professional help. A trusted health care professional is the best person to speak with when you get to this point. They can treat you with traditional medication that will help to clear up your genital wart issue, and if any infection occurs due to any skin openings, can provide you with antibiotics.
