Our Top Recommendation

Almost regardless of which insect is infesting your home or yard, our top recommended solution is the same. Cedar oil is a safe, non-toxic and all natural solution for killing and repelling most insects.

Natural Remedies for Getting Rid of Flies

Here are some great, natural remedies that you can start using today to get rid of your fly infestation.

1) Basil

You may be a huge fan of basil and using it in your cooking, but thankfully, flies are not. All you have to do is pot some basil plants and keep them near the doors or entrances that you suspect that the flies are getting through. Another great way to keep flies out of your kitchen, is to keep some potted basil on the counter or in the windowsill of or near your kitchen.

2) Essential Oils

Essential oils are another thing that we humans find really pleasant, but they are actually repulsive to flies. Certain essential oils can serve as powerful repellents to flies, and are a great way to get these pesky insects out of your house. Here are some really effective essential oils for using to get rid of the fly infestation in your house.

Buy some essential oil diffusers that you can place in your house where you are getting invaded by flies. Add some of the essential oil to the diffusers, and let them go to work at dispersing the oil into the air, and dispersing the flies from your home. Another great way to get flies out of your home is to make a spray with essential oils. Fill a spray bottle with water, add a few drops of one of these essential oils to it, shake it up a bit, and spray the areas of your home or kitchen that are being infested.

3) Swatting them

One really active way that you can work on getting flies out of your house is by manually swatting them. You can go to pretty much any home store and even the grocery store to get an old fashioned fly swatter. Take it home and start swinging! If you are worried about packing enough of a punch to kill the flies, you can also get electric swatters for fairly cheap too. They don’t provide enough of an electric charge to hurt you, but are plenty strong enough to kill flies.

4) Making Sure You Have Working Screens

One of the biggest preventative measure that you can take to keep flies out of your home is to make sure that all of your doors and windows have screens in them. If you have holes in your screens, make sure that you stitch them up or get the screen replaced. If you suspect that flies may be coming in through your air vents, you can always get small screens for the inside of your vents to keep the flies out.

5) Make an Apple Cider Vinegar Trap

Making homemade traps for flies is another super effective way to kill flies off and keep them out of your home. Add some water to a bowl, along with a few drops of apple cider vinegar and a drop of dish detergent. The flies will be drawn to the aroma of the apple cider vinegar, but as soon as they land on the water, the dish detergent breaks the surface tension of the water, causing the flies to drown.

6) UV Bug Traps

Another great trap that you can use to kill some flies is getting some UV bug traps to put outside, around the areas that you suspect the flies are getting in. UV lights draw in the flies and when they get close enough to the light, a zapper zaps and kills the flies, on contact.

7) Make a honey Trap

Honey is another sugary treat that is very alluring for flies, and thankfully, it is really easy to take this sweet nectar into a very sweet fly trap. You can actually use the same method of luring them in as the apple cider vinegar trap, or you can get a little more creative. You can use an empty soda bottle or can, open it up and add water and honey to the bottle or can. Add a little dish soap too to break the surface tension of the water. The sweetness of the honey will lure the flies into the container, they’ll get stuck in the bottle, and drown in the water.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, there are tons of great natural ways to get rid of flies around your home.
